The performance pleases with energetic pace, tense rhythm, and real theatricality. There's no place
for boredom. The actors - mostly rather young - play with undisguised excitement, as if it was a
graduation performance. Griboyedov's text sounds surprisingly contemporary, though the staging
allows no familiarity with the author. All the performers support the director's and the playwright's
idea, regardless the size of their parts. I can't agree with those who think "Woe From Wit" to be
Menshikov's monoperformance. Certainly he is an outstanding actor, but it's not his fault, it's our
common pleasure.
